Kirkjan

Yesterday I showed you the cliffs and basalt colums at Hljódaklettar already. Here is another formation that you should check out. It is called Kirkjan, church, and it is an amazing.

Here the lava is thrown up in a wave like an unruly carpet. Here, you can walk into the back of the cave all the way. It is pretty unbelievable to stand there and look at the ceiling of the cave. It looks like all the blocks are on their own, yet, they stay up.

Gestern habe ich Euch Bilder von Hljódaklettar gezeigt. Hier ist noch eine Serie von Bildern dieser Basaltsäulen. Die Formation heißt Kirkjan, Kirche, und ist einfach unglaublich.

Hier wird die Lava aufgeschoben wie ein faltiger Teppich. Man kann bis in die Tiefe der Höhle hineinlaufen. Der Blick an die Decke besteht aus Basaltstücken und macht natürlich den Eindruck, als wären sie alle lose, dennoch halten sie zusammen.
