Brilliant Light

We spent a few days in and around NYC in winter of 2011 and got to see the awesome, clear and clean light that floods the streets around this time in such perfect direction and low angle that you could imagine it is not real.

It is some years ago that I was last in NYC, but New York at christmas and New York at new years is actually something that makes the city sparkle beyond its usual sparkle.

We did see a lot of eagles on Lofoten. And they are such a mighty sight!

An uneven race

In the Oslo airport, kids were playing with the walking belts. I totally understand and would have almost joined the fun. 

Augsburger Puppenkiste

These are our childhood characters from Augsburger Puppenkiste. We went to see a classic play by them in November. It was great going there after seeing it on TV in my childhood.

Bird on the rack

As I climb around on the scaffolding at roof bottom level, this little guy has found a perch at roof top level. It is a strange feeling to meet a bird in its habitat and to be climbing around close to it. It really did not seem to mind a lot. He almost landed next to us a few times that day or hung out at spots really close to us.

Concert nights

We lately spent the evening at the Snarky Puppy concert in Cologne. It was a packed, large hall. We had seen them in more clubby settings in the last years. They can well rock the big hall, too, though.

Fine dining

Like two peas in a pod - or 3 forks on a board? Anyways, this is a tight fit.

At the surfer beach there also were sailers with light weight boats. I like how they lined up in this shot.

This is a shot of a surfer's beach in Brittany. It is a seach quest to find the surfers in this shot, though.

Tongues of Wood

I really liked these church chair rows. The dragons, creatures, beasts were very detailed and animated. But where is the front one's tongue?

Inside the Golden Hall

The city hall building of Augsburg is a huge, historic building. Inside on the 2nd or 3rd floor there is the Golden Hall, a beautifully ornamented, very large hall with painted walls and textured floor. I really like the optical illusions created in this smooth and shiny stone floor. Looks like you have to climb up to the chairs over all those blocks.

Augsburg

The city of Augsburg is dominated by old architecture and churches, in the downtown area. This is a view down Maximilian Straße towards St. Afra und Ulrich.

Take a break

While working on construction, it is pretty important to stay happy and motivated. A cup of coffee can do wonders, out on the scaffolding.

With sparks flying and darkness all around, you can even snap action shots like this with a cell phone camera. Pretty amazing, I have to say.

Hedgehog Time

This fall we stopped alongside a busy country side road and saw this little hedgehog headed for the tar. Cars were dashing by and we did not see the slightest chance that he would make a safe transition across. So we picked him up and carried him across the road to the field he was headed for.

I hope that he is well and finds a great place to winter.

The long way to the door

This beautifully overgrown door made me wish to sit on one of those benches on a summer evening and read a book, sip a drink and hear the bumble bees in the flowers. Overly romantic anyone?

Hovering barn

I got to check out this barn in the timber frame house museum in Detmold. It is seemingly hovering above the ground on pointy rocks. Great way to keep it dry from underneath but a strange view, nonetheless.

Stove Time

This stove would be a dream to have and use. Not for my everyday cooking but for heating my house and cooking for special occasions.

Unfortunately you can not set these ones up anymore. Their exhaust values are not legal anymore. Where they have been in place for years they can remain. Everywhere else they can only be on display but not in use. What a shame.

Historic Market Hall

In the northern coastal area of Brittany we got to check out this beautiful timber frame hall - a roof without walls, just a deeply drawn cover. Unfortunately we did not get to be there on a market day. I would have loved to see this place brimming with life.

The pink granit coast of Brittany has beautiful coastline shaping and picturesques bays.

Mont St. Michel in the evening sun

The Mont St. Michel is worl heritage and an iconic place - that is, of course, very touristy, but still worth a visit.

A gull at sunset

Even sea gulls stare into a sunset like this. Well, I do assume that it may have been staring at the water that was rushing in from the ocean to fill the bay of St Michel, waiting for fish.

Ornamental Signs

On Mont St. Michel there are many shops and restaurants that have a long history - if not for the individual buisness then for the building, the sight, and the tourists.

Dreamy Light

One morning, about 2 weeks ago, I had to stop on my way to my work of the day, just to take this image here. The morning sun was pretty high already but the beams of light caught in the fog really pretty.

two lonely horses

These two lonely horses will probably spend a lot of time just between the two of them over the winter. This playground will not lie forgotten over the time, though. So they have some chance for company.

More leaves

the fall season is really colorful this year. I bet it is due to the early wintery temperatures middle of October and the warm high pressure times after that.

Foliage

The fall colors were really bright and shiny this year. That probably is due to the early cold snap and then the mild, sunny weather.
