Years ago I experimented with custom bokeh. And I really liked it. I have to admit, I am not doing things like this very often, but occasionally.
And it is neat to know.
My blog post about this has gotten a good bit more than 1000 views by now. And I would like to re-share it here for those who have missed it, by now.
And have you ever tried using this in video footage?
Check the original post for that footage.

Light on the Cross
While sitting in the evening service at the holy communion, I noticed the sun moving across the cross. I shot this as the lightbeams were reaching the feet, because I felt this was symbolic.

An uneven race
In the Oslo airport, kids were playing with the walking belts. I totally understand and would have almost joined the fun.

Augsburger Puppenkiste

These are our childhood characters from Augsburger Puppenkiste. We went to see a classic play by them in November. It was great going there after seeing it on TV in my childhood.

Concert nights

We lately spent the evening at the Snarky Puppy concert in Cologne. It was a packed, large hall. We had seen them in more clubby settings in the last years. They can well rock the big hall, too, though.

Inside the Golden Hall
The city hall building of Augsburg is a huge, historic building. Inside on the 2nd or 3rd floor there is the Golden Hall, a beautifully ornamented, very large hall with painted walls and textured floor. I really like the optical illusions created in this smooth and shiny stone floor. Looks like you have to climb up to the chairs over all those blocks.

Man at work
With sparks flying and darkness all around, you can even snap action shots like this with a cell phone camera. Pretty amazing, I have to say.

Stove Time

This stove would be a dream to have and use. Not for my everyday cooking but for heating my house and cooking for special occasions.
Unfortunately you can not set these ones up anymore. Their exhaust values are not legal anymore. Where they have been in place for years they can remain. Everywhere else they can only be on display but not in use. What a shame.

dynamic wood sculpture
We got to explore the church of St. Moritz, Augsburg, all the way to the front as there was just a visitation time for a group and choire there.

St Moritz
I really like the church of St. Moritz in Augsburg. It is so wonderfully plain and clean. A true change to all the ornamented decorations in the other churches and city hall.
The church used to be way more decorated and equipped but was rebuilt and remodeled in this plain and clean style.

The Golden Ceiling
Here is the most straight and well lit image that I managed of the ceiling of the golden hall in the city hall of Augsburg.
I used my 10 mm wide angle on my crop factor camera and got the camera pretty low to the floor. There was a chair setup in the room so I could get no lower than the seats without catching the chairs in the hall. But it was just enough.

National Register
Old National cash registers are found in museums everywhere. Their ornamental structure has something intriguing. This one is in the exhibit in the city hall of Augsburg about the town's partner cities.

Illusion Painting
There is a long tradition of illusion painting: pretending there is 3D building elements or pieces of art where there is just a flat wall. This illusion element is part of the decorations in the golden hall of the city hall of Augsburg.

Beißhammer
This is a tool I found that I did not even know existed. A "Beißhammer" - part hammer, part pliers, part axe, part screwdriver. All in one tool. And made in 1890 in Germany.

Old tools
We love the old tools we own. They have a history and you can only imagine the works they have been involved in.

At work
Some tools look really familiar until you realize their scale. This will not be found in every household.

Re-Visited
Every once in a while you take a photograph that you forget about. And then, when you get it in your hands again, years later, you think: Wow, really? This is where I took that? And it speaks to you in a way or another.
This image here is nothing all too special and I have shown it to you before.
It is the exit of a cave full of stalagmites and stalgatites and there, over the bridge, is the way out of the cave and back into the sunshine.
We were on a guided tour there - no other visits possible - and when standing in this spot, waiting for the guide to continue his talk, I looked over to the light and wondered, how the image would come out if I miss-set my white balance quite a bit.
Well, here is it: The blue light of day
In retrospect I wish I had framed it differently- further to the right and less of the black rock. But I seriously think that with an image like this, one day, I will have to make a photo-composite with something spacey or alien coming over that bridge, right?
