Flashback

The squirrel pictures were getting out of hand in amount this summer. Not that I do not like the little guys a lot. But I did not want to bore you, totally anyways.

Now, though, I think that you might like another cherry picking photo.

This green beauty was posing on the spot of color for me.

There is a boat

There is a boat at the end of this pier. The sun was setting and the pier was stretching out so far into the back of the fjord. This boat was just the culmination of the stretch.

This is one of the fjords we hung out by. Northern Norway, Lofoten.

Iconic image

This is the iconic look of the Lofoten for me. The color of the water is caribean and the sun was bringing out the colors well.

 

Fog in the morning

In Gullesfjordbotn we found a nice campground in a good location. We set up our tent in the beautiful evening sun.

In the early moring it had become really cold in the tent. When I crawled out at 4:30 a.m. I saw this awesome fog situation unfold in the rising morning sun. I did not hang around forever because of the cold - 4 degree Celsius only, and really moist air, as you can see - but I just needed to get a series of images. Here is one of my current favorites.

Surfers in the Sun

On our trip to the Lofoten we stayed in Unstad. When we got there the weather was nice and sunny but by evening the wind picked up and became a storm blowing from the back of the fjord out to see. The conditions for surfing were not great but a group of guys went out there anyways.

We spent some time on the beach to watch and grab some images. 

The clouds broke open over the horizon and gave us a spectacular golden hour.

Sunflowers at night

I went out to take images of the sunflowers. Instead of just the flowers, I wanted the sky, too!

Cocktails are served

Here is an image that I created for the contest I regularly take part in. 

My topic was glass and I won my round.

This image consits of two glasses stacked ontop of eachother to prevent shadow and create a subtle reflection. There is Aperol inside the glass, and slice of lime on the side. The flash is directed to the background - dark grey paper - and is covered off to the side of the glass to not create reflections. The fall off of light is due to the curved paper I used for flagging.

The lime was still very unattractive in the general one-light setup. We took a LED flashlight with 7 small points of light and directed it onto the lime from the back. The LED were somewhat blue and we used a strongly green flash gel.

The setup was therefore a two light setup: flash and flash light, one neutral, one gelled.

I liked the simple setup and liked the cleanliness of the shot. Of course that went along with a lot of glass polishing beforehand.

Birches have a spring green foliage even in the end of summer, when they get hit by just the right light.

Tjeldsund

Flours, too

It was off season, we do admit that, but there were still flours all over the fields on Lofoten and Vesteralen, Northern Norway.

I have a thing for boat wrecks. Here is a row boat I liked a lot. The bottom broken out, the side shattered, but still lying in the creek just above the shore on Tjeldsund.

Fjords

We arrived on the Lofoten on a bright and sunny day.

Pier

This image is iconic for a northern vacation, I think. The pier and the clouds just bring on the dynamic.

The bay

We got to see an almost endless parade of little boats in the bays. They make great motives, I think.

Knot

Details bring across the feel of a place much more than overviews, I think. Here is one knot I found on a pier that we hung out by.

Sky to amaze

All through our trip we got to enjoy amazing skies. OK, admitted: We did face a lot of rain and storm and therefore we were given a lot of clouds and such.

But loving skies and clouds, this was a treat to make up for sprinkles and downpours.

We spent a day in Harstad, looking at the town and the coastline before we could go and pick up the remaining backpack that finally turned back up the next day.

This is a location down by the waterfront in Harstad.

The sea gulls were entertaining us nicely on the boat ride to the Trollfjord.

I would be glad if anyone could tell me what this was about in Harstad, Norway:

There were lines stretched over the pedestrian area with clothes hanging form them. All sorts of stuff. I did not find the reason.

Harstad by night

Arriving on our Lofoten trip, we were set back: My husband's backpack had not arrived on the plane and it was containing our tent and his sleeping gear. Well. Nothing can be done, right? So we retreated to Harstad, on Vesteralen, instead of heading down towards Lofoten as we had originally planned.

There we stayed the night in a hotel and took a walk around town in the evening.

This night we started to notice what would be with us pretty much the whole time: Interesting skies.
