Foxie
We camped in the exact same spot out in the wild parts of Iceland as we did two years earlier. I mean the exact same spot. And our personal fox companion showed up to say hi to us a few times during that stay.
There is something really special and calm about these foxes and the way they are entirely free of shyness towards people. They come closer than your neighbor's cat at home. Yet they are wild animals.
This one we named Foxie the first time we met her. We were happy to meet up with her this time.

Polar Foxes in the Wild
One of the highlights of our Iceland trips were the encountes with wild polar foxes. We know where there is a place the foxes live undisturbed and are really curious about people. We also hope that for a very long time, maybe forever, they will be able to remain this way: Free and unbothered. To keep it this way, we will not tell you, where these photos are from, exactly. Polar foxes can be seen pretty much all over Iceland. Just keep your eyes open.
These photos here show a very old fox. He is small, because he has an injured, somewhat crippled leg for his entire life. But he is extremely happy in the presence of people and gets pretty close. These photos were taken on 430mm focal distance so I was at a distance that left him safe and unharmed. This attention was on us, though. And the jawns show the tension he has to reduce about this. But it was him who came to us and stayed.
His posture is very doglike and very much like a cat, at the same time. All together these wild roamers make you feel like you are dealing with a pet but at the same time.

the view
The fox is on the way past us and down the hill. She is not really just enjoying the view. But it really looks like that, doesn't it?
Dieser Fuchs ist auf dem Weg an uns vorbei und den Hang herunter. Sie genießt nicht allein die Aussicht, aber es sieht wirklich so aus, oder?

Foxes close up
This year in the Westfjords we got to meet a lot of arctic foxes. We really love these encounters and are happy to bring home so much evidence of undisturbed wildlife as this.
Sorry, but we are not going to tell - online anyways - where exactly we met the foxes. We do not want to make people search for them with our help. But I show what I found.
