Venetian Canale Grande

Canale Grande - March 2011

We dashed down to Venice, rushed around town, enjoyed what we got to see and took photos all around. 3 days were great and we got to see a lot. But they were enough, not enough, over too soon, just what we needed.

Well, I can't really say. If I had known that we would spend longer there, I would have taken it slower and visited more of the art galleries and such. Being there for 3 days got us around well, though.

So: take your chance, visit town, even if you can just do it shortly.

Venice Calendar

I am proud to announce that my next calendar project is now published by Calvendo.

This time it is an upright format, black and white images and the topic is Venice. Gondolas, people, masks, canals and so on.

If you want to know more about all my calendars - that are out up to this point - check out the page up top or follow this link:

Venice by night

Having been to Venice in the spring of 2011 you would think I had gotten to show you all the photos worth showing from there, but not really. I have just taken another look into them and found this nice view of Venice by night.

Golden Shoes

Girls love shoes. True. Mostly.
But how much do you have to love shoes to want them in glittering gold? And, honestly, how much do you have to love them to spend this kind of cash?

If you are brave enough to walk on these heels, you will not be brave enough to do that on the uneven pavements of Venice! No, you are not!

Window find in Venice 2011. Don't worry: I did not even think about thouching them or entering the shop. Just catching a shot for later and here it is.

Mädchen lieben Schuhe. Wahr.

At St. Marco in Venice

An HDR of the light at the gondolas in Venice, taken from the edge of St. Marco square, looking over the water.

The photo is an HDR of 3 RAW files, processed in Dynamic Photo HDR Version 5, then over layered with the middle exposure of the original files to reduce noise in the sky and dark sections.

The ghost image on the left is a gondola rocking on the water. The front decoration of the gondola got caught in the light a little weird.

Venitian Library

HDR of 3 RAW files, processed in Dynamic Photo HDR.

The Library of Venice - may not be here anymore but it reads above the door that the old library is right there.

The photo came out in these colors just by processing. I did not tune this in sepia.

another Venice HDR

The perfectly still water gave me some reflection that looks good in this HDR in my eyes.
The colors of Venice are tan and non-vibrant, the light at night is dramatically different in all spots, though. Working out a picture this way needs some patience.

Venice at night

More photos of Venice that I finally get to work on. This one here was a challenge with the light variances. I tried to do it in HDR of course but really the noise I got with either the long exposure or the ISO didn't make me happy. So here it is from a single shot, just developed from RAW, no HDR software used.

And it's pretty much the same with this photo here:

Venice canal in night illumination

Venice, Spring 2011.

HDR of 3 RAW files with -2 0 +2 bracketing, processed in Dynamic Photo HDR. A main enterance to a building that is worth being called a main enterance is from the water side. The back doors reach out to the alleys and streets.

Venetian door

In Venice this spring I liked the look of the buildings. They have an impression of being run down. And I do not think it needs to be this way. On the other hand this look is typical of Venice so I took it as what it is. I may like clean better than shaby, but I would never claim that old and run down can not make for a good shot.

When I was a child we had a poster on the wall that had photos of doors, one by one. Just doors, and all where different. When I see beautifuly doors, or special ones, or very old ones I take the picture. Maybe one day I will make a poster like that.

This door I found in Venice in the old Jewish Ghetto.

Venice Canal

Well, the title of the posting is kind of redundant. Venice is full of canals. This one I took a nice HDR of, though. This is an HDR of 3 RAW files, processed in Dynamic Photo HDR. I have started to enter the RAW files straight into the programm as CR2-files. Before I used to develope my CR2 in dgn first, then into TIFF and then into the HDR software. I have stopped doing that, though, when I found out that my program can take the CR2. This keeps as much information undamaged as possible.

This canal in the ghetto is a typical one for that part of town, I think. The Ghetto is the old Jewish quater of Venice. Because of this place the quaters of Jewish population are called Ghetto in other places. Finally the term got a different meaning and is now used differently.

Venice view

This door in Venice is a very typical but still special sight. The canals are the most known factor about this town anyways.

Venice impressions

In Venice, a lot of impressions add to the full picture. This lantern cought my eye. I do not know the purpose of the lantern. But it might be a signal for boat travel?

In Venedig tragen viele Eindrücke zum Gesamtbild bei. Diese Laterne fiel mir auf. Ich weiß nicht, welchem Zweck sie diente, aber sie könnte für Bootsverkehr gedacht sein?
