Nature's soundwave

The way this lake side rendered on the camera it reminds me of a sound wave. Here a solid, somewhat vibrating sound becomes louder. First gradually then intensely.

Funnily enough the water is all free of waves. That is why the visual sound wave becomes double hight, too.

Brewing weather

I love clouds. Did I mention? Well, I guess a 100 times, already. But when they come chasing you and you are about a mile out in the ocean on a break water... Well, then you want them to stay up where they are.

Reflected

prefectly reflected sunset behind the clouds. I was impressed how the reflection was brighter than the actual sky.

Searching for the horizon

Grafic lines that fail to separate the horizon line. Interesting geometry that started happening in that location - and was suddenly gone again.

Wide skies

As the sun sets, all the ranges of colors popp up. Being in the right place at the right time depends on time, weather and tides. So getting lucky is a great advantage on a spontaneous trip elsewhere, too. But planning goes a long way, really.

And the daytime contrast

Really close to yesterday's image, but daytime - actually, just a little bit earlier that day.

Soft tones

The wideness of the sea shore landscape can be just amazing. Especially in these soft tones of evening light.

Some more of the fences I showed you a few days ago. This time in the warm light of sunset and with a reflection.

5 years of blogging

5 years ago this was the day I started this blog. Not all that long after I adopted the daily blogging thing. Sometimes it is really hard to come up with original content for the blog. After all I don't just want to bore you with more and more of the same vacation or location over and over. So I try to keep it varied.
I did not find quite as much time lately as I did in the past and therefore the articles have gotten short. I really want to upgrade again and write more on the topics. On the other hand you just don't want me babbeling a lot about a certain image when there is little to say.

Fences

The fences are set up to make the migration of the tidal flats stop and to make sediment settle right there.

Heron alone

The heron was cleverly waiting for the water to come back in between the breakwaters. Just when the water was high enough, he started fishing from his vantage point.

Swan Lake

The egret is stalking the swans. Or at least he is stalking by.

Setting Sun

As the sun was setting, colors changed in the sky quite a bit.

Illuminated Skies

The winter skies turned colorful already around the middle of the day. It was actually quite early, still, and this is neither sunset nor sunrise, but just the sun trying to break through the clouds on this day and the contrasting lack of light in the rest of the sky.

Through the reeds

This image is from the same hike as yesterday's image: the large carp pond in the winter. 

This time, peeping through the reeds I could bring the birds into the picture. Lots of ducks, but also gulls and other water birds.

A winter hike

As explained before we took this winter hike along a big carp pond, rather a lake, in Northern Germany on January fist.

Wide, wintery views but no snow or ice, yet.

Hunting Birds

Hunting birds is a hobby of mine.

While hunting them, they stay unharmed and don't even always notice me. These images were shot out of a car with a 500mm lens on my crop sensor camera. The resulting images are cropped in post, in addition. The distance to the bird explains some lack of clarity, that I have to admit.
But I guess, as you can tell, despite the distance: he did spot me and focussed on me.

Bokel Mühle

There is a restaurant out by the lake and they have this gazeebo built into the lake itself. The view is great there and in the summer and fall this place is teeming with life.

I was once visiting there in October when the carp were being fished and it was a great party atmosphere and you got to observe the entire process of the fishing. We, of course, also got to enjoy eating carp that day.

Not so on our winter hike. The hotel and restaurant were open, of course, but not the lake platform.

Tidal flats

The titdal flats are dry and waiting for the high tide on Januray first, close to sunset, as we hiked out on the break water into the foggy nothing.

Fog and Reflection

Hiking out from Friedrichskoog Spitze onto the break water you get to have some spledid views. This one was off to the left and over some salt flats and water holes.

Blue Calm

As the water starts coming back into the locked down area the fence rows fill up and build these wonderful and fleeting images. There for a little bit, then gone for a while as the fences get submersed and then uncovered, again in the tides.

Birds, Trees and the Light

Being at this lake side in incredibly dooming and gloomy light situations was a blessing. The images we were able to capture were truely fascinating.
Only low sunlight and overcast days can bring you a light like this.

Swans in the back

Winter views over a lake. No snow, nothing frozen. But the swans and egrets in the shallow water towards the reeds in the back.

The day was gloomy and subdued. But the photographic conditions were actually really nice.

Sun over the pond

This pond is actually inhabited by beavers and a lot of other wild life.

Overcast

We took a winter walk at Bokel Mühle, Schleswig Holstein on January 1st.

The overcast sky made it appear pretty dark at times.

Kitty

As Kitty was getting old, she adopted new sitting positions and liked to stay warm. This image is from January 2012.

Industrial

What an eery situation in the low winter sun. Driving over the north sea- baltic sea canal this is the view we got when having crossed.

Wood pecker

Yesterday we got to watch a wood pecker high up in the tree. With a tele lens you get a much better view of birds than with your naked eye. Just you need to spot them first to know where to direct and zoom that lens.

Hudson Bridge

Taking the train from Beacon, NY, to New York City you ride down along the Hudson river.

As much as parts of this river remind me of the southern German Rhine area, these bridges are truely American in style.
