Field of fog

I should really start posting something else than fog images, I know. But we had about a week of foggy mornings and days now and I really love the special look that fall takes on when the fog gets added in.

On that same walk we met this cow and the heron flying over her. I think it is graceful. Which of the two? Both, actually.

The mist was lingering all day in a really thick layer. We used the time for a walk and took advantage of the situation.

November Mornings

The amazingly golden sunlight and fog lately got me out for more early morning photography.

Oh deer

We went for a walk in the river meadows in some pretty thick fog and there was a bird hunt on the other side of the river and a deer on our side got steered up by the gunshots. It ran right by us.

Reine - the view from above

Of course we did not hike up to this little lake from the last post to see that lake alone. We were keen on a view of the bay of Reine. It is really breathtaking.

This is a water reservoir above Reine on Lofoten. The lake looked icy cold, but it was looking picturesque.

Paintings of another Type

 In several places around Lofoten and Vesteralen we found images of this type on the most odd places around buildings. I bet we missed a lot of them, especially some that I had seen online before we went there. But I thought they were really neat.

yesterday morning

These Images I grabbed on my way to work yesterday morning. The light and the fog were just too beautiful to not to stop. I did not have my camera with me so these images are shot with my cell phone, only.

I do think, I could have captured more of the mood with my DSLR, but what I got is pretty much it, anyways.

Tuesday after hurrciane Christian there was amazing sky view time again. This is taken on Tuesday afternoon at the harbour.

From Spiekeroog to Wangerooge

Here is the view from eastern Spiekeroog to Wangerooge, the next island to the east and the "last" of the east frisian islands.

North Sea Skies

Before the storm hit the island, we got to experience some crazy skies on Saturday and Sunday. This picutre was taken on Saturday night two weeks ago on the East Beach, Spiekeroog.

Bevor der Sturm die Insel erreichte, hatten wir unglaubliche Himmel am Samstag und Sonntag. Dieses Bild entstand Samstag Abend vor 2 Wochen am Oststrand, Spiekeroog.

The strom I showed you a sand storm photo of yesterday - hurricane Christian 2013 - did not drown us in rain during the high time of the storm. Here is how the sky looked around lunch time.

Der Orkan Christian hat uns nicht in Regen ersaufen lassen. Der Himmel am Mittag während der Hochzeit des Sturms sah sehr interessant aus.

Hurricane Christian - October 2013

We just experienced the first hurricane of this fall on Oct. 28th by the name of Christian. The hurricane was causing a lot of damage mainly in Northern Germany. During this time we spent a long weekend on Spiekeroog, one of the North Sea Islands. For the day of the storm we chose a safe hiking route and started out into the storm and back with the wind behind us.

Storm speeds were measured around 160 kmh, so 100 miles per hour, on Spiekeroog. It did cause a lot of damage on trees, roofs and lose items.

The storm was whipping up the sand from the beach and dunes so roughly that we had a visible sandstorm around us.

Wir haben gerade den ersten Herbststurm dieses Jahres erlebt, Orkan Christian am 28.10.2013. Der Orkan hat vor allem in Norddeutschland viel Schaden angerichtet. Während dieser Zeit haben wir ein langes Wochenende auf Spiekeroog verbracht. Während des Sturms haben wir uns eine relativ sichere Wanderroute ausgesucht und sind auf dem Hinweg in den Sturm hinein und auf dem Rückweg mit dem Wind hinter uns gelaufen.

Der Sturm wurde mit ca. 160kmh auf der Insel gemessen. Er hat viele Schäden auf der Insel hinterlassen. Umgekippte Bäume und beschädigte Dächer, herumfliegende und umfallende Gegenstände.

Der Sturm hat den Sand von Strand und Dünen so aufgeputscht, dass wir einen soliden Sandsturm erlebt haben.

The Boat in the Blue

This boat all alone in the ocean gave me a great option to place the main object in the spot I wanted it. The gradients of the ocean and sky add nicely.

The clouds are almost soft

This dramatic sky almost has a soft note to it. It was really windy and relatively cold out there on the rocks, but the view was worth it.
