Rain in the Grass

A rainy day in Iceland's Westfjords.

This did not keep me from taking photos, though.

the moon was large that night

When we went to Hvitserkur for photos - see yesterday's post! - we got to see the moon as large and shining as you can see here. Being down by the water the moon was disappearing behind the cliff not so long after sunset. An almost full moon setting within the blue hour had a special feel.

Rain is the topic

I was working on my topic for my monthly photo contest. I had to work on a topic I usually try to avoid. My topic was rain.

There was no bigger challenge for me than a weather topic. Whenever I get a weather topic, that weather avoids me.

I had a beautifully dry late fall. It was phantastic. But there just was no rain. A little drizzle in the dark, but never rain.

So, since I had to hand in a photo eventually, I faked a rain situation. A puddle that was just barely there had to serve. I filled it up with a cannister and asked my husband to jump, jump and jump.

This is how I want to picture rain. Even if it doesn't exist at all.

Oh, if you wonder: I won my duel with this one :)

The Photographer

In the age of digital images this art is dying out. We met this photographer and his middle format camera in the harbour of Reykjavík, Iceland. We took photos of those big old whaling ships in the harbour. He was doing that as well. I like watching his process and was trying not to disturb him. I did ask him if it was ok to take his photo and he agreed.

The old, sly Fox

This is a really old fox. He comes close to people but nevertheless he is a wild animal that keeps a distance to people.

Due to an injury that happend a long time ago he is crippled on one leg. He is skinny and lean but he is getting old in style.

Godafoss

This is another photo of Godafoss in August this year. This waterfall is amazing and definetly worth the trip. We spent a lot of time on both sides of it and enjoyed the sunset at the end.

City Building

In Berlin, the skies were almost doomy lately. But the light made them shine especially cool. These cranes dominate Berlin in my eyes ever since the building madness has reached the city in the 90s.

Venice by night

Having been to Venice in the spring of 2011 you would think I had gotten to show you all the photos worth showing from there, but not really. I have just taken another look into them and found this nice view of Venice by night.

Portrait Exercise

I am lately working on portraits and I am trying to use artificial light and flash to make my portraits look as I want to.
These photos here I made with a premanent light source, a daylight balanced bulb, infront of my new black studio backround.

Thank you for modelling, Sam.

Ice and Light

Jökulsárlón, southern Iceland, on a late evening in August 2012.

We unfortunately didn't get to spend a lot of time there but we did enjoy a wonderful setting sun and awesome light.

These photos I am showing today are all over exposed, by about 2 stopps, but that makes them especially light and airy, I think.

The girl on the bike

I loved the scene with this girl riding her bike through the leaves.

Ich fand die Szene toll, mit dem Mädchen, das durch das Herbstlaub fuhr.

The Harbour

The old harbour of Reykjavík, Iceland, has become a hangout and tourist place. These chairs belong to a really nice café. The tourboats make trips out to sea easy to access from town. In Iceland they really make it possible to see the best up close in a short amount of time - though I do recommend to take your time and travel far and deep into the land. That's where you find the hidden specialties.

City Views

Going to Berlin lately I took some time to cruise the city with my camera in hand and my eyes open.

This scene caught my eyes in the museum district.

Als ich neulich in Berlin war, habe ich mir die Zeit genommen, mich in der Stadt herumzutreiben und die Kamera bereit zu halten. Diese Szene fiel mir auf der Museumsinsel ins Auge.
