Winter Trees

Do you remember the photos of the trees full of birds I showed you lately?

Here are the same trees with winter sky and snow.

The shiny French Horn

Photographing a shiny, polished object is a horror in a small home studio. It only hepls to cover everything in black or white, move shaped objects away and find your positions. I used black studiobackground, styrofoam boards and a large, rectangular softbox with daylight balanced permanent light on this one.

The instrument is a C.F. Schmidt horn, buildt between 1888 and 1896 in Weimar. Its made out of nickle silver and my husband bought it lately used and in damaged condition. Now it is repaired and has additions.

My job was to create photos of it for presentation.

The Bay of Teigarhorn

The home of the photographer Nicoline Waywadt was in the bay Teigarhorn. And there were historic weather observations taking place in the bay, as well as mineralogy finds and recordings.

The people of Teigarhorn in East Iceland must have been interested in a lot of stuff and sciences at a historic site.

The Wreck and the Sun

The wreck and the sun are like the beauty and the beast.

This is another photo of the boat that stranded in Mjoifjördur and is rusting away there. With the sun right in the picture this is a strange kind of counterlight since the sun is a the right angle to flood down the sides of the fjord and perfectly sweep over the green and the rock.

Harrison's journey

Harrison was on his way to find some important envelope. Did you follow his trip up to here?

Check out the details on Come To Life 2013

Harrison war auf seinem Weg um einen wichtigen Umschlag zu finden. Habt Ihr bis hier her seinen Weg verfolgt? Guckt Euch die Details hier an: Come To Life 2013!

When he finally found the envelope high up on the cliff side he was trapped and could not get back down.

Here is the documentation of his way higher up.

He finally came to the top and got on his way home. Check it out here:

The Lighthouses

The lighthouses, the new and the old, are really picturesque. That is why I made them the title photo for my calendar under the topic "Icelandic Coastline" / "Islands Küsten". Have you checked out my calendars? I am happy to have sold a few already, but of course, I would love to see the numbers rise.

The Wreck

This ship wreck in Mjoifjördur, Eastfjords of Iceland, is really nice since it is in the water, but you can walk up to it, no problem, and you can take photos to your heart's desire.

2 years of blogging

2 years of blogging... where did it get me?

I have roughly 37,000 views in 2 years. I would count this as a success.

I got my photography more published than before. I have a place to leave my thoughts about photography and I can span all the topics that I am working on.

I love blogging and I took the bait and went to a daily posting routine about one and a half years ago. I am eager to keep this up while I try not to let my blog get too uniform and too boring.

I am changing up the topics a bit here and there, from contest entries to trips. From landscape to street. To portrait. To city. To animal.

There are topics I do photograph - like weddings and babies or toddlers - that I do not publish and post for reasons of privacy.

I love being a hobby photographer, so that I can chose my topics just as I like and that I can keep this blog nicely fresh and my interest in photography awake. I do not need to submit to selling or customer's wishes. Of course, taking photography as hobby, limits the time and money you can put into the photography itself, the gear and the traveling.

The blog got me confident in showing my photography not just in limited circles but also for a wider audience. The pretty much world wide attention my posts got, was really overwhelming.

I now have a facebook page Trans Pond on Facebook and I do sell calendars of my pictures. This all keeps me going on the hobby and it keeps me getting better.

What would I wish for for the future?

I want to keep this up and running. I want to embark on new projects and topics. I want to learn more about all the details of the trade and all the styles I set my foot on.

I would like to keep entertaining you. I would like to keep the "one post a day" minimum up for the future - believe me: sometimes it's hard!
I would like to progress in photography. I would like to travel a lot and get to phantastic locations.

I would also like to hear what you are thinking. And I would like to receive comments to my posts a little more often.

For now I will post a long, long list of photos from the last few years. All across the pallet of topics. Check them out to enjoy.

Thanks for sharing the ride, here! It's been fun and we will keep going, allright?

A lot of Ice

Hiking on a glacier is a special event. We took the chance last summer in Iceland on Svinafells Jökull with a guided tour.

down the rocks to get to the ice

in the beginning there were steps cut into the ice. But that ended after the very first section.

Counterlight!

This rock in the counterlight is presenting a sharp blade. Seen from this angle it looks the most pointy.

The photo was taken on the Westside Coast of Vatnsnes, Northern Iceland.

Dimmuborgir

Dimmuborgir at Mývatn in Northern Iceland is a place of the weirdest lava formations. Here is a section of towers that are impressively odd.

Hverir

The fumaroles at Hverir are pretty amazing. You would not believe the NOISE those things make. Like a jet engine running all the time, hissing and rushing.

Crafts and Photography

I am publishing a Making Of on Come to Life 2013 today.

I made a leather jacket for the figure I am participating with. Here is how:

Heute zeige ich ein Making Of bei Come To Life.

Für meine Figur habe ich eine Lederjacke genäht. Wie? Das verrate ich hier:

Falling Night

The night was falling as we watched the ravens settle in the trees anlong the field.

Here is the scene from a little more distance than before. Compare to the photos from a few minutes earlier, that I posted on the 14th of January.

The Wall Street Dog

OK, I admit, the post title is pretty random. I saw and photographed this dog on Wall Street, NYC, a little over a year ago.
For reasons unkown to me he was hanging out there. And for reasons I did not follow, really, all of a sudden a swarm of girls flocks around this oh so pretty canine and pets and cuddles him.

Flock of Birds

Going for a walk on Saturday at sunset brought us near this large flock of ravens. They all rose from the field at once and circled into the large trees next to that field.

Then, at no predictable intervalls, a swarm took off from one tree, sat in the next, flew on, came back. The dance went on for quite a while while the light was fading.

I got a few nice photos along the way.
