Chaotic Roofs

Here is a view down from the mountain towards the tidal flats. A bunch of chaotic roofs and steep views to look at.

Mont St. Michel.

Holy Grail!

The forrest of King Arthur, the knights of the round table, the holy grail, and so on. Merlin's grave.
Sorry if I sound disrespectful.

I basically know about these people and storys. But I am no fan and don't know details. When traveling through Brittany, though, we came by Paimpont and decided to check out the area.

Well, we noticed the beautiful woodland and cool landscape, yes. Then we came to Paimpont. And saw, that there was not much to see. For lack of options we entered a souvenir shop and looked around. Untill we noticed that for the rest of the day we would smell like patchouli and other incense.

The entire main road was lined with shops that smelled this way.

That is way out of my comfort zone and so we made a bee line out the gates, into the car (not my car in the picture) and off through the woods.

That was that. Paimpont does not have to expect us back, I guess.

The biggest Omlette

La Mère Poulard is famous for the omlettes. Yes, sure, you would think. Untill you see them. And you see them being made.
I will post video about the process, but for now, I just want to make you hungry.

The keys

We were staying in a hotel by the water in Roscoff, Brittany. Roscoff is a harbour town I will write more about. But for now: just this little sneak peek at the key board in our hotel:

Towering the Mountain

Mont St. Michel is an abbey, not a castle. Hard to teach to some, but actually I get why: it is fortified strongly and well protected.

This is the abbey that is towering on top of the mountain.

Crêperie

On Mont St. Michel there is only one road. More than one little staircase, one little pathway goes here and there, but basically there is only that one road.

Along that road we found this beautiful place to have breakfast.

Inside the chappel

This chappel is located on Mont St. Michel, France.

We walked in and as our eyes are getting used to the lower light, we saw a few people in the benches by the entry. They had their heads bend down and looked like they were praying. Several Asian people in a row.

I was about to turn around and leave so that I do not disturb them. Then I saw that they were all typing away on their smart phones. So I went into the chappel and took my images, including this one.

La Mère Poulard

We have made it to reserve rooms at La Mère Poulard. We spent 2 nights and we got to explore the mountain and the sights pretty well. This is an image of our hotel from a tower in the mountain's walls.

We have been staying at the before last room you can see in the roof section. With the great view, I showed you in yesterday's post.

Looking inlands

The view towards the inlands from our hotel room.
At low tide. When looking out at high tide, the water filled in all the area that does not sprout higher grass here.

The river then gets covered in the tides entirely and the waters meet under the new bridge. The tire tracks you see there are made by the work trucks that try to remove the negative effects of the former dam and that try to renature the bay.

The tidal flats

Since Mont St. Michel is at the risk to loose its position as an island, due to sand and sediment filling in the bay around it, the dam, that you could drive there on has been removed. The work is still ongoing, but the new bridge is operation. The plattform infront of the mountain remains. Now some busses turn around there. Some service vehicles stop there. But the incredible amount of vehicles that used to be there untill recently has dissappeared.

Flagwise

There is this split oppinion among people when you travel to Mont St. Michel: Is that Normandy or Brittany. Well, actually it is right on the edge and has always been. But after it used to be Brettonian for"ever", it now lies in Normandy.

The Normannic flag is posted there - the 2 lions - and also the French flag, of course.

These images were taken from your hotel window, since we were perched right at the gates of the mountain, up on the top floor.

Vesteralen, far North of the polar circle and beautifully lit by sun through the clouds.

Vesteralen Coast Line

We drove over parts of the Vesteralen and close to Ardenes we got the view of this dramatic coastline.

Fotografering

A law from 1914 forbidding me to photograph? Well, I get it. Fine. But I can take an image of the sign, can't I?

As dawn arrived

Found on Lofoten. One of the many street art items that we saw. This kind of street art is really nice and interesting.

Braving the Storm

We don't even know how we made it out there in the blasting storm. But when we got to Nyksund, the waves were crashing just behind those houses you see in the image. Their back is exposed to the open ocean.

We were seeking cover from the annoying rain, found shelter in a restaurant and enjoyed good coffee and some quiet time.

Directions to the south

These sign posts have been set up in a lot of places, these days. This one here is extremely close to the arctic circle. May I inform you that it is pointing south?

Brought to you from Lofoten, Norway.

Wide View

We went for a mountain hike on the Lofoten and were constantly sighting eagles. It is pretty exciting to look for them, everywhere.

This images does not (of my knowledge) contain any eagles but their habitat.

Rocks and Waves

Another rocky shore on the Lofoten.

Northern Living

A house in the far fjords of the Lofoten, Northern Norway. You might think the tree is a little too close to that house, right?

Hiking Path

No, this image is not tipped. The trees do grow out of the hill and downwards. There is a levada in the dip on the right, that is one of the many, many water channels on Madeira.
