Arts Excursion

In summer 2013 we visited De Hoge Veulve in the Neatherlands and went to the arts exhibt there. Some pieces around the park were worthy of a picture.

Colored Sky

Also in pursuit of "winter morning", I caught this sun rise. It was 8 a.m. just before xmas. But I do think that the image I captured looks way more like sunset than sunrise. So I ruled the image out for the contest as well.

Dark morning

This photo I shot near my home when I was searching for "winter morning" as a topic for my contest. But I did not think, the result was displaying the topic well. So: nice image, not in the contest.

Traveling

Bunches of geese, collecting and traveling - maybe south? That is not unusual, really. But this now happens at the end of december.

Robin

On our winter sunshine walk, end of december, we found this little robin, that was keeping us company for just a little moment.

My first King Fisher

I have seen so many king fisher pictures online. And I have studied up on their whereabouts.
But I had never seen one in person. On Dec. 28th we went for a walk in the local nature reserve at the river and there he was. This was a fleeting moment but I did find time enough to watch it and to grab my camera and get 3 good shots... well, of course the last of the images shows it flying off. But we now know where to find it.

Endless Road

This endless road is waving up and down in the foot hills of the mountains on the Lofoten. You should always keep your eyes open what is behind the next corner, the next wave, the next mountain.

Drama in the Sky

I love these dramatic skies of the northern countries. The position of the sun and the dramatic winds and weather situations just make for really interesting weather appearances.

This bridge leads from the mainland attachment of the Lofoten and Vesteralen Islands and the further extensions of the Lofoten.

Lofoten and Vesteralen landscape just as you see it everywhere.

Wreck

This boat wreck that we came by twice on the Lofoten. I really liked the decay and I checked it out in detail.

Santa is out of breath

12 days of christmas? Santa is out of breath already! 

I hope you all helped him to get the work done. I sent out all the reindeers I could muster and got the sled all polished up.

Magic light

When the light is standing low, especially if there are dark clouds overhead, concentrating the light on the ground, we get these spectacular land scape views. I am glad I can capture them in camera and make them part of this blog.

Foggy Morning

About 3:30 a.m., Lofoten, a foggy morning and frozen fingers on the camera. But it was worth it.

Proud Bird

This statue of an iceberg with a cormorant was displayed in one of the Lofoten fjords up north. It looked funnily out of place in the summer.

Plane coming in!

The airport in Evenes, Lofoten displayed a plane on the inside of the terminal. The writing "Experimental" on it was making sense, I guess.

A house in the mountains

This is a backpackers' quater in the highlands of Iceland near Snaefells mountain (not Snaefellsnes).

We stayed the night there and engulfed ourselves in the natural hotpots that you see out infront of the house and to the side.

Glacial River Land

Where the glacier retreats, vegetation starts out. The greens are as intense as the black of the vocanic rock is.

The View into the Blue

When driving through the high lands in Iceland, it is important to stay on the tracks that are established. Even if the area looks like a big gravel bed, this is glacial sediment that is conquered, slowly, by plants and animals and if you drive over it, you destroy the flora that is already estabilished.

This is the section between Snaefells snow cap and Vatnajökull glacier. The glacier is that white edge in the back ground. You can not believe how big it is, untill you are right there. And then from horizon to horizon, there is just that gigantic egde of ice.

Painted Land

Icelandic mountains are coming up in many different colors and give the impression that the land was painted by someone really creative.

Ice Bridge

When exploring the back side of Vatnajökull glacier in the Icelandic highlands we found this arching ice bridge in this vast and empty part of the rock desert.
