In the Alpenzoo in Innsbruck, Austria, the local animals are in the cages, areas and fenced in landscape. Partially you can enter and get pretty close to the animals. With this colorful bird I am more than happy, that that was not possible and there were sturdy bars between us and it. This bird is called "Wood Grouse" or "Horse of the Woods", "Capercaillie Cock" and some other names in the dictionary. In German it is called "Auerhahn". They become more and more rare these days and I have never seen any of them in the wild. Getting close to this giant with that strong beak I am pretty happy about that even.
Im Alpenzoo in Innsbruck, Österreich, werden die regionalen Tierarten in den Gehegen und Käfigen gezeigt. Man kann teils in die Gehege hinein und recht nah an die Tiere herankommen. Allerdings bin ich bei diesem bunten Vogel recht froh gewesen, dass ein solides Gitter zwischen ihm und uns war, denn er sah schon ziemlich beängstigend aus. Auerhähne waren früher wohl recht verbreitet in den Alpen, werden aber immer seltener. So gern ich auch einen in freier Wildbahn sehen würde: Bei der Größe und dem heftigen Schnabel ist es wohl ganz gut, ihnen nicht zu begegnen.
