Weather Service

In November of 2011 we went to Norderney, an island in the North Sea. November does not sound like a time of good weather for that region. Well, we got a pleasant surprise for a whole week of no rain and mostly bright sunshine. The sign and info terminal of the German Weather Service seems to be the place to thank for this event, doesn't it? This Service we will use again. :o)

Klara Harden is out and about

Have you guys seen Klara Harden? She made this wonderful video of hiking through Iceland on her own - Made in Iceland - and I really recommend it. I did link it here, as well. Now she - and another film maker - are out for another project. They want to cycle through Madagaskar - on a photo and filming trip made possible by crowd funding. Interested in making this happen? Curious on what this is? 

Of course if anyone wants to support this... that sounds great.

Check it out, check out the Iceland video as well. Its really fun to watch her / them do their work and show the passion. I am looking forward to this video project and will surely report about it once it is there.

Just for info: I "got to know" Klara because of here Iceland video I stumbled upon on the net. I did connect to her via facebook afterwards to tell her, what a great job she has done on transporting the feel of such a trip. Other than that I only follow what I find on the net - and I like it!

The White House

No, I am not talking about the White House in Washington but about this white and green Icelandic house in the bay of Isafjördur. 

Nein, es geht nicht um das Weiße Haus in Washington sondern um dieses weiß und grün gestrichene Haus in der Bucht von Isafjördur, Island.

 

Times Square in blue light

On the day before New Year's Eve we crossed Times Square, NYC, just as the blue hour fell and dipped the scene in some incredible atmosphere. The preparation for the celebrations were already set up and trafic was mostly stopped around it, but we could still walk around all unhindered.

Am Abend vor Sylvester sind wir über den Times Square gelaufen, gerade als die blaue Stunde alles in eine unglaublich Atmosphäre getaucht hat. Die Vorbereitungen für die Neujahrsfeier waren schon aufgebaut und der Verkehr weitestgehend gestoppt, aber wir konnten ungehindert herumlaufen.

As NYC tempted me to do street photography anyways, sights like this made the shutter click: The Naked Cowboy. I researched a bit and found out, that there is one famous Naked Cowboy in NYC and there is Frenchise, Merchandising and all sorts of stuff attached. This one here must be a "frenchise enterprise".

Weil ich in NYC sowieso auf Street Photography aus war, habe ich bei diesem Anblick natürlich auf den Auslöser gedrückt. Ich habe ein bisschen recherchiert und herausgefunden, dass "The Naked Cowboy" nicht nur eine berühmte Person in NYC ist, sondern dass es auch Frenchisenehmer gibt und Merchandising und so weiter. Ich meine, das hier war ein Frenchisenehmer.

Venice in Black and White - No. 1

I already showed a good bit of my photos from Venice, Spring 2011. Here is a series of them in black and white.

Wrecked

In 2009 we drove through the Westfjords of Iceland. We came by this ship wreck and took some photos in the amazingly strong wind, always a little afraid of the sand blasting our cameras.

In a storm many years ago, this ship was searching for shelter in the fjord, when the weather washed it right up on land at the deepest point of the fjord. The ship was just left there for good.

That amazing winter day made great backlighting for really nice photography. The overall look of this photo seems entirely timeless to me.

Venice Windows

Shop Windows in Venice made nice motives on my trip there last February.

Of course glass is a main theme in Venice. But not the only topic on interesting display.

TODAY

She was sitting there, waiting for her food. I just could not resist this shot. If you look carefully, you will know why. This photo was taken on the night before Christmas Eve in a part of Greater Boston through a shop window.

Sie saß da und wartete auf ihr Essen. Ich konnte diesem Motiv nicht widerstehen. Wenn Ihr genau hinseht, werdet Ihr wissen, warum. Dieses Bild habe ich am Abend vor Weihnachten in einem Teil von Greater Boston durch das Fester eines Ladens gemacht.
