Isafjördur - local museum 3

In 2 previous posts in the last few days I have shown some of the local museum of Ísafjördur, Iceland, Westfjords. Here is some more - including one of my favorites, the radio communication room on the top floor.

the cave

While traveling through the north of Iceland in 2008 we visited the Myvatn area. The geothermal powers are strong and unleashed there. This cave we found in a cracked rock alongside a dirt road somewhere away from the lake. The water in this cave was steaming and warm and the place looked like it was perfect for meditation.
This photo is taken by my husband.

Church Windows

These modern yet old fashioned church windows are from Akureyri, Northern Iceland.
They all represent the history of Iceland and important people around it.

A few days ago I did post a stack of pictures of the local history museum of Ísafjördur, Iceland, Westfjords. Here is some of the enterior exhibits. They mainly deal with the topic of fishing and ship travel.

Dried fish, proably cod.
Getrockneter Fisch, vermutlich Kabeljau.

Bouys and ropes, nets, fishing gear.
Bojen und Seile, Netze und Fischereiausrüstung.

I think these devices are for rope making - but don't ask me details...

Red in the harbour

The harbour of Ísafjördur - and a few red items I found as I was walking around.

The Admiral

In Sweden, 2010, we sat in a harbour sea food restaurant one night and the seagulls were diving into the harbour waters and came back up with clams and shell fish.

One of the seagulls was really impressive. We kept calling him "The Admiral", because he was strutting up and down the pier and looking very regal. The other birds tried to be close to him but also stay out of his way.

Pump and such

I keep finding fuel station pumps in weird spots. Well it is weird that they still are where I find them because they truely look unused and are placed in strange spots. This one here was in a farm in Sweden, 2010. More photos of this farm for you? Here they are.

Isafjördur - local museum 1

In Isafjördur in the Westfjords of Iceland we have visited the Local History Museum more than once now. But at one visit, there was a group of locals in traditional outfits and was presenting former life and more or less hanging out acting "normal" there.

Here is an overview of my photos from that day.

Life as fishermen and sea shore life are the topics of that museum in general. But also music, bird egg collecting and items of furniture and objects complete the museum.

A dog in the water

Norderney, November 2011. Someone's dog on the beach was getting my attention. Playing in the evening light in the surf, this dog was quite the active guy. I just don't want to know how smelly a dog with long fur becomes when it plays in the North Sea and gets all wet. It probably is worth the fun, though!

Bird in Colors

In the Alpenzoo in Innsbruck, Austria, the local animals are in the cages, areas and fenced in landscape. Partially you can enter and get pretty close to the animals. With this colorful bird I am more than happy, that that was not possible and there were sturdy bars between us and it. This bird is called "Wood Grouse" or "Horse of the Woods", "Capercaillie Cock" and some other names in the dictionary. In German it is called "Auerhahn". They become more and more rare these days and I have never seen any of them in the wild. Getting close to this giant with that strong beak I am pretty happy about that even.

Road Man

This is a bike path and pedestrian walkway along the waterside in Reykjavík, Iceland, in 2008. I really like the casual and natural look of the shape. In Germany there would be a very generic person painted on the road.
