Inside an old house in Iceland this stove caught my attetion. This HDR is composed of 8 different pictures with manual exposure steps.

Im Inneren eines alten Hauses in Island ist mir dieser alte Ofen aufgefallen. Das HDR besteht aus 8 verschiedenen Aufnahmen mit manuellen Einstellungen.

the bay panorama

I tried this photo panorama of Hornvík up on Almennigaskard view to the north. The clouds moved fast so there is trace of movement in them. But really: 23 photos so acurately stitched. I think this is my best panorama yet.

Ich habe mich an einem Panorama von Hornvík versucht, aus 23 Bildern. Aufgenommen ist es vom Almennigaskard mit Blick nach Norden. Die Wolken zogen recht schnell, daher ist dort eine Spur von Bewegung zu erkennen. Aber letztlich: 23 Bilder akurat zusammengesetzt. Ich halte das für eines meiner besten Panoramen bis jetzt.

On our first night in Hornstrandir this year we got to experience this awesome sunset.

An unserem ersten Abend in Honrstrandir dieses Jahr bekamen wir einen tollen Sonnenuntergang zu sehen.

Isafjordur bay

Isafjordur, is a town in a fjord in the Icelandic westfjords that lies on one side of a longer fjord. But it reaches into the fjord pretty far with the harbour area. Therefore it makes the impression of having a very calm bay which really is the side of the fjord. I posted an areal shot of this same bay before, which you find here.

Isafjordur ist eine Stadt in den isländischen Westfjorden, die an einer Seite eines Fjordes liegt. Sie ragt aber in Form einer Halbinsel, auf der sich der Hafen befindet. Dadurch ergibt sich der Eindruck der sehr ruhigen Bucht, die aber eigentlich nur die Seite des Fjordes ist. Ich habe neulich bereits mal ein Luftbild aus dem Flugzeug von dieser Stadt gepostet, das hier zu finden ist.

The back of the bay looks like this and is actually the end of the fjord.

Das rückseitige Ende der Bucht sieht so aus und ist das tatsächliche Ende des Fjordes.

abundance of buttercups

The vegetation in Hornstrandir can be very lush and consists of many different grasses, mosses, flowers, herbs and so on. The most striking for us were the buttercups that litterally covered whole hill sides. Here are some examples of buttercups in Hornvík.

Die Vetation in Hornstrandir kann sehr reichhaltig und vielseitig sein. Sie besteht im wesentlichen aus verschiedenen Gräsern, Moosen, Blumen, Kräutern etc. Die besonders auffälligen waren für uns jetzt die Butterblumen die gleich ganze Bergflanken bedeckt haben. Hier sind ein paar Beispiele.

These pictures are from the same part of the cliff edge, the side between Dögunarfell und Kálfatinda looking down on Innstidalur on the way back from Almennigaskard on our way back from the look off to Hornbjargsviti. The top picture is looking off to the opposite side over Hólmsbót.

Diese Bilder stammen von der selben Stelle der Klippen zwischen Dögunarfell und Kálfatindar mit Blick in das Innstidalur auf dem Weg zurück vom Almennigarskard auf dem Rückweg von unserer Aussicht auf Hornbjargsviti. Das oberste Bilder sieht in die andere Richtung mit Blick über die Hólmsbót.

Adalvik

We took the boat into the westfjords of Hornstrandir again this year. The ride by the bays gives spectacular views of their features. This bay here is a part of Adalvík on the western side of north Hornstrandir. 

Wir haben wieder das Boot in die Westfjorde von Hornstrandir genommen. Diese Fahrt bietet spektakuläre Aussicht auf die einzelnen Buchten und ihre Landschaften. Hier ist ein Teil von Adalvík an der westlichen Seite des nördlichen Hornstrandirs.

Isafjordur in the night

In almost arctic nights the light does not go down for much, if at all. This kajak sports man made my evening photo of Isafjordur bay and town area.

In fast artischen Nächten geht die Sonne nicht lange unter, wenn überhaupt. Dieser Kajaksportler war ein gutes Motiv für ein Abendphoto in der Bucht von Isafjordur.

Reykjavík shows up with a new Conference and Concert Center at the harbour area. We looked at this building in several stages and now we could walk inside of it. At first you do not know what you are looking at but the building consists of windows resembeling basalt columns and just as well lava rock faces, concrete walls, painted lava black and so on. We had some interesting time with this new piece of architecture.

Reykjavík zeigt sich nun mit neuem Konferenz- und Konzertzentrum im Hafenareal. Wir haben dieses Gebäude in den verschiedenen Stadien des Baus gesehen. Jetzt konnten wir uns darin umsehen. Die Fensterfronten erinnern an Basaltsäulen, die Wände sind teils aus Lavagestein, teils aus lavaschwarz gestrichenem Beton, etc. Wir haben uns in Ruhe umgesehen und unter anderem dieses Photo mitgebracht.

Das Bild ist ein HDR aus 3 Einzelaufnahmen mit Belichtungswerten -2 0 +2.

Rotting shark

I have been asked many times, what the national dish of Iceland is. While we had so much good and individual as well as hearty food around Iceland and there are probably at least twice as many recipes for amazing Icelandic fishsoups as kitchens in Iceland, one of the most shocking and strange pieces food is the rotting shark.

To be honest: When I heard about it, I thought: Of course I will eat it. I try it all. But when I smelled it, I really did not think I would like it. Well, really, it smells like a horse stable after a long winter. But we did eat it a few times and it is astonishingly interesting and well tasting. I can really recommend it, but be prepared for an experience.

All my descriptions of what it is and what there is about it would never beat this recipe for making that specific kind of food... Rotting shark - a recipe of the special kind.

Ich werde oft gefragt, was das Nationalgericht in Island ist. Wir haben viel und reichhaltig in Island gegessen. Sehr abwechslungsreich und zwischen sehr modern und bodenständig. Und ich bin überzeugt, dass es in Island mindestens doppelt so viele Rezepte für unglaubliche isländische Fischsuppe gibt, wie Küchen in Island. Aber das interssanteste und seltsamste, von dem ich berichten kann, ist verrotteter Haifisch.

Um ehrlich zu sein: Als ich erstmals davon gehört habe, habe ich gedacht: Na, klar, ich probiere alles. Aber als ich es gerochen habe, dachte ich nicht, dass es mir gefallen würde. Es riecht wie ein Pferdestall nach einem langen Winter. Aber als ich es probiert habe, schmeckt es erstaunlich gut und gar nicht uninteressant. Ich kann das wirklich empfehlen. Aber bereitet Euch auf eine neue Erfahrung vor. 

Alle meine Beschreibungen davon, was das ist und wie man das macht und so weiter... würden niemals an dieses Rezept und diese Beschreibung herankommen. Verrotteter Haifisch - ein isländisches Spezialrezept

This painting of clouds in Hornvik, Iceland, is a 3 exposure HDR. Hornvík is a special place close to the polar circle and pretty hard to get to, really. 

Dieses Wolkengemälde in Hornvík, Island, ist ein HDR aus 3 Belichtungen. Hornvík ist ein besonderer Platz nahe am Polarkreis und eigentlich recht schwer zu erreichen.

Iceland - the photo stream

As noticable I am not usually posting a lot of pictures of the same event or place close to eachother. But we are just back from Iceland and brought so many photos that I will keep posting those more often for a while. 

Normalerweise versuche ich, nicht zu viele Bilder des gleichen Themas oder Events nacheinander zu posten. Aber jetzt sind wir gerade aus Island zurück und haben so viele Bilder mitgebracht, dass ich wohl eine Weile lang sehr viele Bilder zum Thema Island posten werde.

This one here is of a fox and her 2 pupps in the Westfjords, Iceland. Her name, we found out, given by a nature film person, is Michelle. In these first pictures I took of here you can see her pupp drink milk while we - and two other people that actually worked on nature surveilance with these foxes - watched from close by. Well, you can sort of see that, because there is a bit of the hill in the way, but really... I did not think I would ever be near this kind of thing in the wild. Especially since the foxes knew fully well, that we were there.

Hier ist ein Bild eines Fuches mit 2 Jungen (nur eines ist zu sehen). In diesen Bildern kann man sehen, wie das Junge bei der Mutter trinkt. Ich kann kaum glauben, dass die Füchse sich so normal verhalten haben, obwohl wir beiden und zwei Mitglieder des Naturbeobachtungsprogramms nahe dabei standen. Die Füchse wußten sehr genau dass wir da waren.

I should probably put other Iceland pictures in before this really amazing footage. But I just do not want to wait on it.

Wahrscheinlich sollte ich erst eine Menge anderer Bilder aus Island posten, bevor ich diese tollen Momente teilen. Aber ich will damit nicht warten.

More panning

The pictures of panning exercise in Sweden last year I have already posted. Here is one more of those photos. Really: There is no photoshop work in the changes of that picture. The effect is done by moving the camera during exposure time.

back home

We are just back from Iceland again. Two and a half weeks of great vacation and great people! Since really I am almost afraid to find out about the total number of photos we took... Here is just a quick teaser. These few seconds of pan over Hornvík,Hornstrandir, are a good start,though.
(cell phone cam on this one. Do not judge the video quality that much... and shut off the sound, if you do not want to hear the wind blow by!)

Zoom, Gelsenkirchen, offers a great place to meet the giraffes from. The house you walk into is as high up as their heads and they seem to love to check out their guests.
